Indonesia COVID-19 Update: More than 500 New Cases Again

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe COVID-19 Task Force reported today 518 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The additional infections brought the total tally to 4,265,187 as of Friday, January 7.

Indonesia has logged more than 500 new cases since yesterday. The figure increased significantly from previously below 300 cases.

The authorities obtained the number after examining 283,262 specimens. The number of active cases also rose by 299 to 5,494.

Jakarta remained the largest contributor to the national cases with 300 new infections. The figure was much higher than in other provinces. Five other regions that contributed more than 10 cases were the Riau Islands (60 cases), West Java (36 cases), Banten (30), Central Java (28 cases), and East Java (15 cases).

The remaining 28 provinces reported less than 10 new cases, and 14 of them did not even discover virus transmission.

The COVID-19 Task Force also confirmed that the number of patients recovered from the disease surged by 214, pushing the total recoveries to 4,115,572. Meanwhile, the virus death toll increased by 5 to 144,121 cases.
