TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD DKI Jakarta)’s Commission B said it would check on the construction of the Formula E circuit in Ancol—presently still at the auction stage—twice a month to ensure it would meet its completion target in April 2022.
“We will control [the construction] in the location to make sure it will be completed in June,” said Commission B Chairman Abdul Aziz in Jakarta, Friday, January 7, 2022.
Aziz explained the construction of the Formula E circuit in the Pantai Karnaval area in Ancol had yet to kick off, and that the Commission hoped it could commence immediately to avert postponement of the much-anticipated sporting event.
“This is a huge agenda, an international event. We do not want any postponement,” he said.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician also called on the public and the commissioners of city-owned property developer PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol to help DPRD councillors keep an eye on the construction.
“We already have commissioners there as representatives of the Jakarta administration. The point is we will check on the construction twice a month,” he said.
Earlier, the president director of city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo, Widi Amanasto, said the tender for the Formula E circuit construction was still afoot, yet he stopped short of detailing when the tender began.
“We already began [the tender],” he said at the City Hall in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
