TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) legislation body (Baleg) deputy Willy Aditya on Wednesday predicts the Sexual Violence Bill (RUU TPKS) has the potential to be deliberated and completed with the government in one session.
His optimism comes after the latest condition and coordination between lawmakers and the government during the creation of the Bill at the work committee (Panja), Antaranews reported.
“The RUU TPKS can be finished quickly under current circumstances and lengthy coordination with the task force. We expect it to be completed in one session,” said Willy at the House headquarters on January 5.
He claims the commitment from lawmakers in completing the Bill is evident as in December discussions for the initial draft had been completed by the work committee. The only procedure left is to approve the draft Bill in a House Plenary Session and then discuss it alongside the government.
Willy said he appreciates the comments from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo who urged lawmakers to immediately pass the Sexual Violence Bill. He argues it reflects the sense of urgency from the government regarding sexual violence crimes in Indonesia.
