Wakatobi Hit By M5.8 Earthquake; No Tsunami Warning Issued

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Wednesday morning detected a magnitude 5.8 earthquake that struck the area of Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi.
Citing the agency’s website, the earthquake happened at 03:55 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) with an epicenter of 182 kilometers off the coast northeast of Wakatobi and at the depth of 569 kilometers below the ocean surface.
The coordinates of the earthquake were at 4.91 South Latitude-125.18 East Longitude.
BMKG noted that the 5.8 magnitude earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
