TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi invites all parties to welcome and face the new year of 2022 with a new spirit and work for a developed Indonesia.

He said that the country had been hit by all kinds of challenges, like COVID-19, economic recession, and a high uncertainty situation in 2021. “Through those challenges, let's face 2022 with a new spirit, work for a developed Indonesia," he said on his official Instagram account @jokowi, Saturday, January 1, 2022.

According to the head state, all the challenges and tests in 2021 had strengthened and united the Indonesian nation.

Throughout 2021, Indonesia had to work for two highly important assignments; namely to cut the chain of Coronavirus transmission and to maintain the economy.

The pandemic and economy, he went on, must be maintained to stay balance. According to Jokowi, the pandemic curve has been sloping down which can be proven by hospitals occupancy. "All because all of our efforts in implementing the health protocol and intensifying the vaccination," he said.

The president asserted that of the 208 million vaccinations target, until December 30, 2021, Indonesia had managed to give 273 million doses of vaccine for the people. It consisted of 160 million first doses and more than 113 million complete doses.

Indonesia had faced a recssion, a minus in the economic grwoth, a slow down in many economic sectors, and a high uncertainty in almost all elements. But through the power and spirit to work hard, Indonesia survived.

"Indonesia's economy in Q2 2021, grew 3.51 percent (yoy). In other side, the pandemic had pushed for a new world: a digital era," Jokowi remarked.
