Jakarta Police Mobilize 1,730 Personnel to Secure New Year's Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan on Friday said there would be 1,730 personnel mobilized to help secure the capital city ahead of New Year’s Eve. This came after Jakarta administrators decided to enact a crowd-free night to safeguard the COVID-19 health protocols.

The crowd-free night will be enacted to prevent crowds from gathering in public spaces, which increases the risk of Omicron transmission.

“I would like to say that there are no New Year celebrations allowed this year,” said Endra at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Friday, December 31.

The crowd-free night will be imposed starting at 22:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) until 04:00 WIB morning of January 1, 2022.

There will be 11 locations where the CFN is enacted, which consist of popular streets such as Sudirman-MH Thamrin, Kemang, Bulungan-Barito, Senopati-Gunawarman-SCBD, Asia-Afrika, and popular open spaces such as the East Flood Canal (BKT), Kota Tua, Kemayoran, Kelapa Gading, and the vicinity of the National Monument or Monas.

Businesses such as cafes, restaurants, and the likes are only permitted to open until 22:00 WIB on New Year’s Eve.
