TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police's narcotics unit in tandem with the Customs and Excise Agency foiled the distribution of major stashes of ecstasy pills and crystal meth that was planned for New Year’s Eve.
West Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Ady Wibowo said in a statement on Friday that authorities confiscated 5,005 ecstasy pills shipped from the Netherlands and 1.3 kilograms of crystal meth. Both drug stashes were secured from two different locations.
“Thousands of these pills were packaged as electronic products to deceive security personnel,” said Ady.
From this major confiscation, the police arrested three suspects in two different locations in Central Jakarta and North Jakarta. The police chief said the suspects were arrested on December 29 and according to investigation they were linked to an international drug syndicate. Suspects now face charges of 20 years' imprisonment up to death penalty.
The police said the drugs, if they made it to the streets, are worth over Rp3 billion rupiah.
