TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has prepared 700 isolation booths to anticipate flood evacuees exposed to COVID-19. The agency’s acting head Sabdo Kurnianto said hundreds of the booths had been distributed to five cities and the Thousand Islands Regency.
Sabdo said his side prepared 70 units of refugee tents, 720 beds, and 700 isolation booths. “It's a supporting tool to deal with the rainy season,” he said in Jakarta BPBD Office, Wednesday, December 29.
The agency also prepared 230 units of rubber boats and 460 buoys (ring boys), as well as logistics, food, medicines, vitamins, and baby diapers.
Other than supporting facilities, BPBD mobilized 170 personnel to five cities and regencies of the Thousand Islands for flood disaster relief during the rainy season.
Sabdo asserted based on the BMKG's weather forecast, the peak of the rainy season in Jakarta was expected to occur from January to February 2022.
“Jakarta will experience peak rains and potential floods in January and February 2022,” said Sabdo.
BMKG thus asked the Jakarta government and residents to be aware of potential hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods and landslides due to increased rainfall in early next year.
