TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Agency was set to deploy 2,500 personnel in five areas of the capital city to oversee public mobility and prevent crowds on the 2022 New Year's Eve.
“We’ll mobilize around 2,500 personnel in five areas of Jakarta for the implementation of Crowd Free Night,” said the agency head Syafrin Liputo at City Hall, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 28.
Syafrin said the Jakarta administration in tandem with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) was decided to enforce Crowd Free Night. At least 73 points throughout the capital on December 31 night will be closed. People are barred from celebrating the new year in crowds.
“As said by the Governor at Jakarta Police HQ, a Crowd Free Night policy will be applied, including in Sudirman area to Kota area that will be closed and there will be no activity. Other than that, several other points will be closed,” Syafrin added.
He further urged the public to celebrate the start of the new year at home with families considering the rising new cases of Omicron variant in the city.
“We continue to urge the public to stay at home celebrating New Year's Eve with beloved family. It is safer for us to stay at home,” said Syafrin.
