Jokowi Sends Letter to DPR to Prioritize ITE Law Revision

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has sent a presidential letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) asking the council to discuss the draft bill on the second amendment of Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions or ITE Law.
“The President's letter has been signed and sent to the DPR on December 16, 2021,” said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md in a statement, Friday, December 24.
The letter was registered number R-58/Pres/12/2021 regarding the bill on the second amendment of Law No. 11/2008 with an attachment of a document of the draft bill.
The President also requested the bill be immediately discussed in the DPR with top priority. The letter stated that for the purposes of the bill discussion, the President assigned the Minister of Communication and Information and the Minister of Law and Human Rights to represent the government.
The government planned to amend the ITE Law on a limited basis with regard to its substance. There are four articles that will be revised, namely Article 27, 28, 29, and 36. Besides, there will be a new article, Article 45C.
