TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Telecommunication operators in Indonesia are competing to meet the standard to operate the fifth-generation or 5G cellular network.
Communication and Information (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G Plate said the latest cellular network has already been available since May 27, 2021, through three providers.
Telkomsel
State-owned telecommunication operator Telkomsel is the first provider that launched the super-fast mobile network technology in Indonesia as it is granted a Certificate of Operation Eligibility (SKLO) on May 24, 2021.
Although the service is only available in a limited area, including six areas of Jabodetabek and several other cities, the company uses the frequency of 2.4 GHz with a bandwidth of 30 MHz in the range of 2,300 to 2,330 MHz.
Indosat Ooredoo
The SKLO for Indosat Ooredoo was issued on June 14, 2021. As quoted from the ministry’s official site kominfo.go.id, Minister Johnny said the SKLO issuance proved that Indosat had prepared all facilities and infrastructure and was ready to operate the mobile network using the frequency of 1,800 Mhz or 1.8 GHz band with a 20 Mhz bandwidth (1837.5 to 1857.5 Mhz).
The Ministry had also conducted the network testing in Monas areas, Central Jakarta, namely Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat and Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.
XL Axiata
In a press release No. 279/HM/KOMINFO/08/2021, the Kominfo Ministry announced PT XL Axiata Tbk received an SKLO for operating 5G network on August 6, 2021. The network is carried out in the 1800 MHz or 1.8 GHz frequency band, with a bandwidth of 20 MHz in the range of 1807.5-1827.5 MHz.
