TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito in a virtual press conference on Tuesday announced that the government is preparing new quarantine facilities for people arriving from overseas.
“The plan is to have three additional centralized quarantine facilities located in Jakarta,” said Adisasmito on December 21, Antaranews reported.
The locations that will be transformed into these facilities are in East Jakarta’s Penggilingan flats, Daan Mogot flats in West Jakarta, and The Education Quality Assurance Agency (LPMP) in South Jakarta.
This move comes after the extended quarantine period imposed on any person arriving from overseas, which initially was set at 10 days but will be extended to 14-days due to the spread of the Omicron variant in multiple countries.
Adisasmito urged travelers to consider preparing additional funds that will be allocated for their quarantine. He strongly urged people against traveling abroad for the time being.
As of October, the government said international arrivals on average amounted to 2,000 people but this number spiked to 4,000 arrivals in December, which the Covid-19 task force says is concerning amid a new coronavirus spread.
