TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a press briefing on Monday strongly advised people against traveling overseas for non-urgent matters as the Omicron variant is proving to be spreading faster than other known Covid-19 variants. He suggested domestic travel if people intend to go on holidays.
“If there is no urgent matter and is not super important then the recommendation is to not conduct overseas travel. For tourism or creative economy activities, it is highly suggested to do it domestically,” said Sandiaga Uno on December 20.
He revealed that the recent limited meeting led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo deems the Covid-19 situation in Indonesia is relatively under control despite the recent finding of an Omicron case.
Uno believes by focusing on domestic travel, one can help protect the community and contribute to the national economic recovery.
The upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays are expected to see 11 million people traveling either to hometowns or just on a holiday after the government canceled imposing the stricter Level 3 public activity restriction (PPKM).
