40.3 Percent Unaware of Simultaneous Elections In 2024, Survey Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest Charta Politika survey found 40.3 percent out of 1,200 respondents are not aware that the 2024 elections will be a simultaneous election, despite 59.7 percent of them being informed that the presidential, legislation, and regional head elections would be held in the same year.

484 respondents are not aware of the aforementioned facts, says Charta Politika executive director Yunarto Wijaya in a virtual survey report on December 20, Antaranews reported.

“This is homework for the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu),” he added. 

Moreover, the study also finds 81.7 percent of respondents agreeing with the government’s plan to host the multiple elections in the same year with 17.3 percent disagreeing, which is a contrast to the public response towards the 2020 simultaneous regional elections. 

“This may be affected by people’s psychology as the Covid-19 pandemic is starting to subside,” he said, “it is no longer considered dangerous to gather again amidst the Covid-19 era.”

Presented with the idea of postponing the election for another six years in 2027, nearly half of respondents or 47.6 percent who were interviewed disagree, as this aligns with the unpopular rumor of extending the current administration for another periode. It was blatantly asked to respondents and saw 57.9 percent disagreeing on extending the current presidency.
