Kemang Raya Flooded after Heavy Rains

21 December 2021 00:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHeavy rains showering Jakarta earlier in the afternoon caused flooding in Jalan Kemang Raya, Bangka, and Mampang Prapatan of South Jakarta at more than half a meter high.

Based on Antara's observations at the location, Jalan Prapanca Raya until Kemang Raya and the opposite direction could not be passed by four-wheeled vehicles at 19:10 local time.

Two-wheeled vehicles from both directions were forced to use the sidewalk to avoid floodwater. A number of cyclists chose to stop as they could not cross the road for fear of engine failure.

Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Mustajab, said the flood occurred at around 16:30 local time following a heavy downpour.

Mustajab said his side and the local police are still trying to help motorists pass through the area. The agency had also deployed a water pump to help the flooding recedes.

Other than Jalan Kemang Raya, he continued, a number of areas in South Jakarta were also flooded. “There are other points, but the floodwater can recede immediately, such as in Dharmawangsa where the flooding recedes due to gravity,” Mustajab said.
