TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A public organization named the Alliance of Boarding School Students City Against Sexual Violence urged the East Java Regional Police to arrest a suspect of sexual violence known by the initial MSAT. The suspect is alleged for committing the crime against female students of a boarding school owned by his father, who is a religious leader.
"We urged the East Java Police to immediately arrest and detain [the suspect]," said one of the Alliance's representatives Soleh in a written statement on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
Soleh also urged the East Java High Attorney Office to handover the case to the court. Soleh asked the attorney's office not to delay or even protect the suspect. "The attorney office must not neglect the implementation of the Indonesian Attorney Office Guideline No. 1 of 2021 concerning Access to Justice for Women and Children in Investigation of Criminal Case," Soleh said.
Soleh asserted that the slow progress of the case has enabled the suspect to submit a pre-trial to the District Court of Surabaya for his suspect determination. The pre-trial lawsuit was rejected by the court under the reasin that MSAT was wrong in naming the defendant in their lawsuit. However, the legal consideration will allow MSAT to submit another pre-trial.
Soleh said that the case originated from the report of several female students of the Shidiqiyah Boarding School in Jombang. A number of students claimed to be victims of sexual violence committed by MSAT. The report was made since 2019.
According to Soleh, the sexual violence case was based on abuse of power because the suspect is the son of the owner of the boarding school. The suspect, as Soleh explained, is also a teacher and owner of the medical center. "The suspect takes advantage of trust, and power to commit rape and adultery," Soleh said.
