Anies Baswedan Bans Christmas, New Year Events at Malls

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan decided to prohibit celebratory events of Christmas and New Year at shopping malls albeit the least strict public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 1 is in place in the capital.
“The 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year celebrations at shopping centers and malls are prohibited, except MSME exhibitions,” as read in the gubernatorial decree.
The Gubernatorial Decree No. 1473 of 2021 takes effect from December 14, 2021, to January 3, 2022. While, PPKM Level 1 is in place from December 24, 2021, until January 2, 2022.
To prevent virus spread during the year-end holidays, Anies also banned any old and new year events at malls and even open spaces. “Or those areas that have the potential to attract crowds,” he said.
Malls and similar places are allowed to operate from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. during PPKM Level 1 with a limited capacity of 75 percent. Children under 12 years old may enter the mall, but must be under parents’ supervision.
Children's playgrounds and entertainment sites at malls are also permitted to operate so long parents note down their address and phone number. “Which is for tracing purposes,” stated in the decree inked by Anies Baswedan.
