TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said Indonesia’s digital market or economy continues to grow. By 2025, he opined, the value was projected to reach US$146 billion.

The growth of the digital market was even faster amid the lingering COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the President expected the nation’s children to take advantage of the huge market potential.

“What I want to say is that the market potential is huge, don't let someone else (another country) make benefit from it,” he said during the Digital Generation Acceleration event on Wednesday, December 15.

He thus detailed the growth of the country’s digital economy in recent years. In 2019, its value stood at US$40 billion and increased to US$47 billion in 2020. This year, the value was estimated to jump by 49 percent to US$70 billion.

The former governor of Jakarta also said there were 2,319 startups across the archipelago, and that the number is rising every day. To date, Indonesia has one decacorn and seven unicorns. Apart from them, many startups are striving to earn the unicorn title.

Jokowi went on to say that these startup firms would grow to be unicorns and decacorns in line with the growth of the digital market.
