TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria appealed Jakarta residents to access factual information surrounding the tidal flooding to prevent fake news or hoaxes that may cause new problems in the capital.
“Do not let fake news come up with new problems,” said Riza at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 9.
Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said there are potential high tides in several parts of Indonesia, including Jakarta on December 18-22, 2021. The high tide has the potential to trigger coastal or tidal flooding.
Riza continued that Jakarta is entering the rainy season and that the higher the rain intensity, the greater the potential for tidal flooding.
The Gerindra Party politician also said that at the beginning and end of the year, the intensity of rain in the capital is likely getting higher. “So we ask all residents to be more careful and vigilant,” Riza underlined.
The tidal floods hit Jakarta recently. On December 4, the tidal flood submerged 12 neighborhoods in Ancol sub-district, 10 in Pluit sub-district, and 2 neighborhoods in Pulau Pari sub-district. On December 7, 2021, 39 neighborhoods in North Jakarta and West Jakarta were also inundated by the flooding.
