BMKG Predicts Heavy Rains throughout Christmas Week, New Year's Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts rains with high intensity in all provinces in Indonesia, starting from the week before Christmas until New Year's Day.
"And starting from Christmas day until January 2, 2022, the forecast is heavy rain in all provinces of Indonesia," BMKG chief Dwikorita Karnawati said in an online press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 8.
Dwikorita said that until early 2022, Indonesians should also be on the lookout for high waves, strong winds, as well as lightning storms.
"Please be aware of possible floods, flash floods, tidal floods, landslides," he said.
Dwikorita said that currently the weather situation is not quite normal, in the sense that there are still potentials for rainfall to increase above normal, up to 70 percent. The peak is predicted in January and February 2022, while the rains are expected to last all the way until March.
She encourage vigilance against extreme weather, which can be done by continuously monitoring BMKG information from the Android app, social media, web pages, or calling the 196 hotline.
