TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry on Wednesday called for Jakarta State University (UNJ) management to provide protection for a student who became a victim of sexual harassment.
“[Put forth] protection for the victim, protect, protect the victim,” said Paris, the education ministry’s deputy director general of higher education to Tempo on December 8
Paris said the ministry is in constant communication with the university regarding the alleged harassment committed by one of its lecturers identified as ‘DA.’ Campus management are also urged to establish a dedicated task force to act as a fact-finding team.
Fortunately, he said, the UNJ rector had been responsive in handling the case and said that a rector's regulation and task force had been established adhering to the education minister's regulation No.30/2021 on sexual violence in universities.
The Ministry itself will guard the case and strictly monitor its development and prevent similar cases from recurring in the future.
The alleged sexual harasser at one of Jakarta's major universities went viral in Twitter after a screen shot of a chat between a student and lecturer spread online, which exposed the lecturer expressing love for the student and even blatantly asking his student to marry him.
