Jokowi to Monitor Affected Areas of Mount Semeru Eruption

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will depart to Lumajang of East Java, tomorrow, December 7, to inspect the affected regions of the eruption of Mount Semeru, which killed 15 people.
“Yes, that is right [the President will go to Lumajang tomorrow],” said Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono to Tempo on Monday, November 6.
The volcano erupted on Saturday, November 4, emitting hot avalanches and thick volcanic ash. Fifteen people reportedly died and 27 others are still missing. The collection and validation of data on victims are still afoot.
Meanwhile, at least 1,707 people were evacuated to 19 refugee camps.
The hot avalanches also destroyed houses and infrastructure in a number of subdistricts of Lumajang regency.
Based on the data to date, the Mount Semeru eruption damaged 2,970 houses, 38 educational facilities, and the Gladak Perak bridge in Curah Kobokan village that connects Lumajang and Malang.
