TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tidal floods hit the coastal areas of Jakarta again this afternoon, December 6. Floods caused by the overflow of seawater submerged 15 neighborhood units in North Jakarta and West Jakarta.
“Eleven RTs [neighborhood unit] in Pluit of North Jakarta are inundated [by floodwater] at the height of 40 to 50 cm,” said Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) spokesman M. Insaf on Monday, December 6.
The other four RTs are located in Tegal Alur Village of West Jakarta. The flood caused by the tidal wave as high as 40 cm inundated the village areas since 2 p.m.
Insaf said that at present local subdistricts along with other stakeholders including the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) were striving to make the flood recede.
Meanwhile, Ancol Village Head Rusmin said his area was still inundated until this afternoon. “It's starting to recede,” he claimed.
Rusmin explained the tidal flood was triggered by the height of the seawater that was higher than the surface of the embankment. In addition, river water that flows downstream from upstream runs off again due to the difference in levels between land and sea.
