TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria inspected the Cyber 1 Building in Mampang, South Jakarta on Thursday night after it caught fire in the afternoon. During the visit, Riza received a report about the alleged cause of the deadly incident.
“What is certain is that no one smoked in this building because this building must be safe. There might be a short circuit. Let’s wait for the results of the inspection,” said Riza at the location, Thursday, December 2.
He also said the two victims who died were visitors. They die due to smoke inhalation as they were trapped on the second floor, where the fire first broke out.
Riza also ensured the government data stored on the building's server remained safe because the data were stored on a different floor. “Other than government data, there are also important private data, but Alhamdulillah, [the fire] only broke out on the second floor,” he added.
The fire incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 12:34 p.m. At that time the building was busy with employees and visitors.
Jakarta’s fire department deployed 22 firetrucks with 100 personnel. Until now, the agency is still cooling down the fire site. The cause is not yet known until now.
Jakarta's Fire Agency spokesman Mulat Wijayanto confirmed there were two victims who died in the Cyber 1 building. “An 18-year-old died at the site, the other died when he was rushed to the Mampang Hospital,” said Mulat.
