TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two technicians died in the blaze that engulfed the Cyber 1 building located in South Jakarta’s Mampang area on Thursday noon. According to the Jakarta firefighter spokesperson Mulat Wijayanto, the two men perished after inhaling the thick smoke that saturated the building that houses servers of a number of tech companies.
“[The victims] died not due to injuries they sustained but because of inhaling too much smoke,” said Wijayanto to Tempo on Thursday, December 2.
One casualty was Seto aged 19. Another one died as he was being transported to the Mampang General Hospital nearby the area.
The fire broke at 12:34 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Not long after, 22 fire trucks and 100 firefighters were mobilized to the location and started to put out the fire at 12:41 WIB. The fire was extinguished after half an hour.
As they arrived, the second story of the Cyber 1 building - where the servers are placed - had already been filled with smoke.
