  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, on Wednesday opened the G20 Presidency of Indonesia 2022 that was held virtually. In his acceptance speech, the President asserted the event shall be Indonesia's opportunity to contribute more to the global economic recovery.

He hopes the country's presidency - touted "recover together, recover stronger" - will boost a healthier, more just, and sustainable global management.

"In the G20 presidency, Indonesia will focus on three aspects; an inclusive health management, digital-based transformation, and transitioning to sustainable energy," said Jokowi.

He stated his intentions to treat the presidency more than a ceremonial event and push G20 member states to contribute to actual solutions, build collaboration, and rally the strength that would ensure a global positive effect is felt through cooperation.

The President pledged to use the opportunity hosting the massive global event to fight for the interest of developed nations as he plans to establish a fairer global governance.

"Indonesia is trying to tighten global solidarity in overcoming climate change and sustainable development. And rally the commitments of developed nations to assist developing nations," President Jokowi said.
