TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The mysterious shooting that happened last weekend at the Bintaro toll exit of the outer Jakarta ring road is finally revealed. The Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Commissioner Endra Zulpan said the shooter, that eventually killed one person and injured another, was a member of the highway patrol unit (PJR).
“The suspect was police inspector 2nd class OS,” said the police commissioner on November 30.
According to Endra Zulpan, the member in question is being questioned by the Metro Jaya Police and National Police internal affairs (Propam).
The police's general crime director Tubagus Ade Hidayat said witness testimony revealed the incident began when a citizen, identified as O, reported to the highway patrol police that they were being followed by a suspicious vehicle.
Receiving this report, Inspector OS suggested O to head to the police highway patrol headquarters as a safe location. However, the police inspector was involved in an altercation as soon as the suspicious vehicle arrived.
The clash happened there. One shot can be heard and then someone almost got run over which then led to the two shots that hit the victims. Internal affairs are currently investigating whether the actions of inspector OS complied with standard operating procedures.
