TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Monday issued a statement echoing what other state officials conveyed regarding the Constitutional Court (MK) verdict on the Job Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja).
He insisted that the government respects the court verdict and that changes will be made in less than two years, which is the deadline set by the MK.
“The MK gave a two-year deadline. We will try to [complete it faster] in less than two years,” said Mahfud on November 29.
Despite accepting the court decision, he assured that the government guaranteed that the investments made under the Job Creation Law remained legal as the MK said the law is valid for another two years. "Agree or disagree, that is what the Constitutional Court said,” Mahfud said.
If within the two years there is an investment made legally, Mahfud emphasized that it cannot be canceled and has legal certainty. He said the government understood the Constitutional Court's decision was only related to the procedures that were requested to be corrected.
“This is why, ongoing investments will carry on, those that want to arrive can also do so, based on the existing law and regulations the government guarantees the security and legal certainty,” said Mahfud MD.
