TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission D, overseeing development issues, on Wednesday gave a recommendation to turn the 117 hectare Bantargebang landfill area into a golf course, which head of Commission D Ida Mahmudah said has been practiced in South Korea.
“In [South Korea] a 500 hectare of landfill that is overfilled was transformed into a golf course which is not expensive, not difficult, according to Korea,” said Mahmudah in Jakarta, November 24.
She argues that the landfill has currently amassed garbage that stacks up to 50-meters high, which is impossible to get rid with.
The PDIP politician said turning the landfill into a golf course can turn the area into a source of regional income, as its area could accommodate such a plan.
Currently, the actual landfill area in Bantargebang reaches 19 hectares. “If the entire 100 hectare is all filled, it would be better to turn it into a golf course,” she added.
