TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) assures that the light rail transit or Greater Jakarta LRT will be fully operable in August of 2022 and will utilize level 3 automated controls, which effectively means the train is designed to operate without a machinist.
However, upon making sure the system entirely works as intended, each LRT train will have a human attendant and one security personnel, said the KAI VP public relations Joni Martinus on November 23.
In situations where there might be technical disturbance, train attendants are tasked to operate the train manually under limited speed.
These attendants are qualified people specifically trained to operate the automated trains, with one of the qualifications being able to speak in English as they will interact with passengers during trips.
KAI has prepared a 2.5 month training period for LRT attendants at the Railway Engineering Training Center (BPTP) in Bekasi.
“KAI is currently 123 train attendants who will be tasked in 27 trains of the Greater Jakarta LRT,” said Martinus.
