TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Starting next year, PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II)  shall apply face recognition technology at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. "It will be applied in January 2022," said Yado Yarismano, Vice President of Corporate Communication PT Angkasa Pura II earlier today.

The first stage of face recognition implementation will start at the airport. "It will be integrated with Travelin and TravelinKiosk apps that will be provided at the airport," he said.

Passengers can validate their identity, boardingpass and health report with PeduiLindungi apps. Currently, The application is being tested and verified by the Ministry to ensure flight safety.

"Face recognition in its early stage will be available at Security Check Point 2 (SCP 2) at Domestic Departure, Terminal 3," said Muhammad Awaluddin, AP II Director. The system is expected to help passengers because they don't have to carry a physical document for checking in.

In January 2022, face recognition will be available in all of Soekarno-Hatta airport area. According to Wahyu Cahyadi, Chief Project AP II, face recognition will be applied to other airports run by AP II.

Passengers can download Travelin, both in Android or iOS, then proceed to register their identity. Those identities shall be validated by the Civil registration agency. Passengers then will receive a validated travelinPass. In travelin application, they can also do airportID registration by choosing Create myTrip option. "All of the validated data will be sent to the autogate system for face recognition," said Wahyu.

At the autogate, passengers are required to do face recognition. The gate will open if certain requirements are met such as the face recognized by the system, a validated travelinPass, body temperature under 37.5 celsius degree and the passenger carrying a validated trip document. "If someone were to use others' accounts, the gate won't open because it doesn't fit with the data in the face recognition system," explained Wahyu.
