Riau University Dean Named Suspect In Sexual Harassment Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investigators from Riau Police Department officially named the dean of Riau University, Syafri Harto, as a suspect in the case of alleged sexual harassment against a female student.
"Following an initial investigation, SH [Syafri Harto] has been named a suspect in the alleged case of [sexual harassment]," said Riau Police spokesperson Grand Commissioner Sunarto to Tempo on Thursday, November 18, 2021.
Police investigators have announced the start of the investigation to the public prosecutor and said SH will soon face questioning as a suspect. Police say enough witness testimonies and pieces of evidence were collected to incriminate the dean.
The alleged sexual harassment first emerged in public after an Instagram account owned by Riau University Komahi published testimony from a student of Syafri. In the video, she recalled experiencing sexual harassment as she conducted thesis guidance with the suspect.
The victim with the assistance of the Pekanbaru Legal Aid then reported the case to the police.
