TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  Finance Minister Sri Mulyani estimated that the economic recovery in the fourth quarter of 2021 will strengthen significantly as supported by several indicators. Sri made the statement after attending the Plenary Cabinet Session at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 17.

“Economic recovery in the fourth quarter is estimated to strengthen quite significantly, especially as it is supported by several indicators,” she remarked.

According to Sri, some of the indicators included the increase in the consumer confidence index, the increase in the retail sales index, and the increase in or the recovery of the manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) after a decline in the wake of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

“Exports and imports also show high growth of 50 percent,” said Sri who is the former managing director of the World Bank.

As for the financial market, she said that the yield of securities has improved with the spread decreasing from the US Treasury in early July 2021 by 512 basis points to 449 basis points. “The rupiah and the stock price index also improved,” she added.

However, Sri Mulyani said the government is still facing challenges, namely the tendency of inflation due to rising producer prices.
