TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The president commissioner of state energy firm Pertamina Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok responded to the investigation following the massive fire that engulfed the fuel storage facility at the Cilacap refinery on Saturday last week.
According to initial reports the firm received, the cause of the fire is said to be natural in the form of a lightning strike on the 36 T102 tank facility. However, Ahok insisted that this case should be handled by the police.
“We will ask Bareskrim (the National Police's Criminal Investigation Division) to investigate [the case],” said Ahok on Monday, November 15, Bisnis.com reported.
News agencies reported that an investigation would commence following the Pertalite reservoir at the Cilacap IV Refinery in Central Java.
This was confirmed by PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional secretary Ifki Sukarya, who said on Sunday the management was being subject to an investigation after fire fighters managed to put out the fire.
