TEMPO.CO, JakartaReligious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas expressed his full support for the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministerial Regulation No. 30 of 2021 concerning the prevention and handling of sexual violence (Permendikbud 30) issued by Nadiem Makarim.

“As the Religious Affairs Minister, I welcome and fully support the issuance of Permendikbud 30,” Yaqut said in an online discussion, Friday, November 12.

He asserted that the ministerial regulation was necessary as a legal umbrella for preventing and handling the rampant cases of sexual assaults at universities. He also argued there was no reason not to support the policy.

Yaqut hoped the regulation could protect universities from sexual assault issues. “In my opinion, Permendikbud is very revolutionary, dismantling the deadlocks and stagnation in the resolution of sexual assaults at universities,” he remarked.

Therefore, Yaqut planned to issue a circular of the ministry’s secretary-general on the prevention and handling of sexual violence at state religious universities as a gesture of support for Permendikbud 30.
