TEMPO.CO, JakartaA survey on digital literacy by the Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Ministry in 2020 shows that Indonesia scored 3.47 in UNESCO’s digital literacy indicator assessment, which is meant to define digital literacy competencies and proficiency levels so that country results can be compared and used to monitor progress towards SDG 4.

The Ministry’s director of information empowerment Bonifasius W. Pudjianto said Indonesia’s score shows the country ranks at the middle and has yet achieved an exemplary literacy status.

“We all must take the role of digital heroes and improve people’s digital literacy,” said Bonifasius in a virtual event in collaboration between the ministry and Ruangguru on November 10.

He says that internet access in Indonesia is growing faster, affordable, and prevalent. IN early 2021, the number of Indonesian internet users reached 202.6 million or 73.7 percent from the total population, unfortunately, the growing internet users are not accompanied with sufficient digital literacy and creates its own challenge.

Bonifasius believes there are four aspects that need to be improved, which consists of digital skills, digital ethics, digital culture, and digital security.
