10 November 2021 17:14 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe union of labor organizations staged a rally today, November 10, demanding an increase in the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) before Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s office or the City Hall, Central Jakarta.

Mirah Sumirat, President of the Indonesian Workers' Union Association (ASPEK), said the participants demanded that the government of all regions raise the minimum wage by 10 percent.

“We from the KSPI (Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions) and the federation members today ask governors of all provinces, city and district heads to increase the UMP by 10 percent and also not to raise the UMSK," he said at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, November 10.

The demand was voiced following the survey result on the standard cost of living (KHL) conducted in 27 provinces in which calculating the cost of 60 items for the standard cost of living in both traditional and modern markets.

Additionally, the demand for a 10-percent UMP hike was backed by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the government’s assistance and stimulus for affected people were also deemed not optimal.

Today's demonstrations were held simultaneously throughout Indonesia by KSPI and their affiliated organizations. In Jakarta, Mirah said, there have been no negotiations with the local government.
