TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cianjur Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) called on tourists to stay vigilant when traveling to disaster-prone areas in Cianjur as high-intensity rainfall recently showering West Java regions.
The agency head Tedi Artiawan said that since the last week, heavy rainfall hit most parts of Cianjur for more than two hours every day, which has the potential to trigger various natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and land movements.
“[The disaster-prone areas] include tourist routes in Cianjur, from the Puncak area to the southern region,” said Tedi on Sunday, November 7.
The Cianjur BPBD noted that tourist routes susceptible to natural disasters are Jalan Raya Puncak-Cianjur, Jalan Raya Cianjur-Campaka, Jalan Nasional Naringgul-Bandung, and alternative route of Cianjur-Jongol.
He also appealed to the management of tourist attractions to remain vigilant and immediately close or stop activities when there are signs of an impending disaster, especially in waterfalls and beaches.
“Tourists are advised not to stay close to waterfalls or beaches because, at this time, water discharge and sea waves are changing that can threaten their safety,” Tedi said.
