TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa expressed his gratitude after being approved by Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) as the Indonesian military (TNI) commander.
He will replace Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
"Thank you," Perkasa said briefly during a public hearing (RDPU) with Commission I at the parliament building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday.
General Perkasa looked visibly moved by the decision, which was announced during the reading of the outcomes of DPR Commission I's internal meeting by its chairperson, Meutya Hafid.
After his approval was announced, several Commission I members invited Perkasa to take a group photo.
Hafid said the approval was based on the commission's internal meeting during which Perkasa made a presentation regarding his mission and vision as the candidate for the post of commander of the TNI and the factions in Commission I shared their views.
"Giving approval for the appointment of a candidate for the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to General Andika Perkasa as the Commander of the TNI," she remarked.
Commission I's decision to approve Perkasa will be brought to a plenary meeting, she informed.
She said the results of the public hearing were to give approval to the candidate for TNI commander, as mandated by Law No. 3 of 2002 on national defense and Law No. 34 of 2004 on TNI.
The leaders of the DPR RI received a Presidential Letter (Surpres) regarding the proposed candidate for the TNI Commander on behalf of General Perkasa. The Presidential Letter was conveyed directly by the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno to the leaders of the DPR.
