TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo a.k.a. Jokowi attends the World Leaders Summit concerning Climate Changes or COP26 that was held in Glasgow, Scotland on Monday, November 1, 2021. In his speech, Jokowi stated that Indonesia has shown their commitments in handling climate change by providing real contributions.

"With an enormous natural potency, Indonesia continuously contributes to handling climate change. Deforestation rate significantly decreased, the lowest in the last 20 year. Forest fires also decreased by 82 percent in 2020," said Jokowi in his speech.

Jokowi stated Indonesia started to rehabilitate 600.000 hectares of mangrove forest in 2024. This is the largest in the world says him. Aside from critical land rehabilitation that covers 3 million hectares has also been completed in between 2010 to 2019.

"Sector that initially contributed 60 percent of emission gas in Indonesia will reach carbon net sink, at least by 2030." In the energy sector, Jokowi says Indonesia will carry on. This is intended with the electric car ecosystem development, construction of the largest solar power-plant in Southeast Asia, use of new and renewable energy including biofuels.

"Along with the development of clean energy based industry including a construction of the largest green industrial area in North Kalimantan." Jokowi also emphasized that climate change is a major threat for global prosperity and development and to handle that, it must be faced together. "Solidarity, partnership, global cooperation are the key," said Jokowi.
