TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, met with the United States President Joe Biden at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) where the World Leaders Summit at the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26) is held. Both leaders discussed bilateral partnerships, Antaranews reported.
Indonesia highly appreciates the healthcare bilateral partnership amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, starting from dose-sharing mechanisms, ventilators, therapeutic Covid drugs, up to various healthcare equipment.
Reports suggest Jokowi expressed interest in becoming a part of the global supply chain in the field of health through the establishment of Indonesia's health industry. Other aspects being discussed were the development of a green economy, the commitment in reducing carbon emissions.
In the energy sector, President Jokowi conveyed to Joe Biden that Indonesia pledged for the transformation towards renewable energy, and also to accelerate green-based economies.
“I expect for the United States to support the country with investments to accelerate energy transition, especially on low carbon technology,” said the President. “We must make the G20 relevant not only for its members but also for the rest of the world, especially the developing countries.”
