TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Group of 20 (G20) summit in Rome has officially ended and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said the summit produced a declaration by state leaders, one of which touches on global economic challenges amid the pandemic.
“The leaders' declaration consists of 61 paragraphs that cover 26 issues representing the global economic challenges, including the pandemic situation and what can be done together by the G20 state members,” Retno wrote on November 1, Antaranews reported.
Apart from the economic challenges the world currently faces caused by COVID-19, other aspects mentioned in the declaration include healthcare, energy and climate change, international travel, and the digital economy.
In the field of health, Indonesia joined members that propose the formation of a health and finance task force that would help assist the funding of healthcare services amid a pandemic. Retno said the task force would establish a roadmap to finance health services in poor and developing nations.
She said a heated discussion happened as they were talking about net zero emission targets and the establishment of the time frame in order to reach this goal. “But for sure, everyone agrees that an international partnership is needed for energy transition.”
Retno said Indonesia managed to include the common but differentiated responsibilities (CBDR) principle at the G20 summit in the context of climate and energy. Indonesia emphasized the importance of fulfilling climate financing commitments from developed countries to developing countries and the formation of a digital economy working group.
