TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) will hold three international badminton competitions in Nusa Dua, Bali province, from November 16 to December 5, 2021, after suspending such events for two years due to COVID-19.

Chairman of PBSI, Agung Firman Sampurna, announced the competitions in an official statement received here on Saturday.

The association is planning to hold the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2021 BWF World Tour Super 500 from November 16-21, SimInvest Indonesia Open 2021 BWF World Tour Super 1000 from November 23-28, BWF World Tour Finals 2021 from December 1-5, he informed.

The total prize for the events will be $600 thousand, $850 thousand, and $1.5 million, respectively, he said.

"The implementation of the three international competitions here shows that Indonesia is recognized as qibla of the badminton world," the chairman remarked.

Furthermore, the events will feature world-class badminton players and attract the eyes of badminton fans towards Bali, he added.

A number of well-known Indonesian players—Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and others—will compete in the international events, he said.

The tournaments -- which are expected to be attended by around 300 of the best badminton players from 26 countries -- will be conducted with a bubble system to protect all players, coaches, and officials from COVID-19, Sampurna said.

"The world's best badminton players from various prominent countries in badminton, comprising Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Denmark, England, and Russia, have conveyed their readiness to take part in the events," he added.
