TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is the strongest candidate to host the 2023 World Beach Games (WBG). This is based on a decision made during the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee Association (ANOC) in Crete, Greece, held on October 24 and 25.
Raja Sapta Oktohari, chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), said ANOC chose Indonesia as the strongest candidate to host the 2023 WBG because of its experience in organizing international multi-sport events. The 2008 Asian Beach Games in Bali, the 2018 Asian Games and the 2018 Asian Para Games were taken into consideration.
ANOC reportedly will visit Indonesia at the end of 2021 to look at the competition arenas and facilities. However, Oktohari stressed that the current focus is to free the Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency (LADI) from sanctions by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
He wants Indonesia to be free from WADA sanctions, so that preparations for the WBG and other championships can run smoothly.
"The important thing now is for us to be free from WADA's sanctions first, to expedite all the processes. We also encourage LADI to immediately resolve 24 pending matters," he said.
