TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Greater Jakarta LRT (LRT Jabodebek) train carriages on Monday collided during a trial phase at an overpass rail section between the Cibubur Harjamukti and Ciracas stations. The following are the facts regarding the incident Tempo obtained:
- Indication for locomotive machinist error
PT INKA president director Budi Noviantoro in Monday’s press conference said there were indications leading to human error in the tragedy, mainly in controlling the train’s speed that exceeds the standard set by safety protocols. The collision happened as an INKA machinist moved one of the trains to clear the railway for trial purposes.
- Train Operator Injured
The president director confirmed that the train operator sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital and confirmed that the train machinist is conscious. The colliding trains did not carry any passengers but only a team of experts.
- INKA Recovers Damaged Trains
The company announced that the train sets that collided will be taken back to its manufacturing plant in East Java after the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) completes its investigation. The company president said repairs will be made but will be written off if the trains are unrepairable.
- KNKT Investigates the Incident
KNKT will investigate the incident and determine the actual cause of the collision.
5, Financial Losses Yet to be Calculated
The LRT Jabodebek operator said the financial cost of the incident has not been calculated but assured that a team from INKA has arrived at the location to determine the actual economic losses caused by the incident.
