TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Abdul Muhari on Sunday announced a fire broke out at the slope of Bali’s Mount Batur on Friday but was successfully extinguished on the next morning on Saturday, October 23.
The fire covered a 3-hectare area in the Mount Batur Bukit Payang National Park (TWAGBBP) which is a dryland and bush area. “There was a 3-hectare land area engulfed in fire,” Muhari wrote in a statement on Sunday, October 24, Antaranews reported.
Based on observation from the field team, the fire was likely caused by the searing heat, strong winds, and the friction from dry branches, which is common in a bushfire.
“There were no casualties caused by the fire,” he said.
There were multiple locations where the fire happened and one of the most challenging faced by the joint team was the fire that engulfed the mountain’s steep slope area located at the far east region of Bali’s Mount Batur.
Head of the Bali Province Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) I Made Rentin said a similar fire can potentially happen again in the future and called for everyone in its vicinity to keep alerted.
