Indonesian Students Stage Rally Against Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian university students joined in the student alliance of Islamic State University (UIN) Jakarta staged a protest in front of the Merdeka Palace today, October 21, 2021. The Indonesian alliance of the Student Executive Board (BEM SI) also took part in the demonstration.

“The purpose is to evaluate the performance of the Presidential cabinet of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) which has been running for two periods but still poses many unresolved problem,” said Ahmad, the coordinator from UIN student alliance on Thursday, October 21.

They said that they still see many issues, especially regarding the freedom of speech and academic freedom. "Including the unresolved human rights cases," he added.

According to Ahmad, those were the promises of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi but they saw no progress until today.
