TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Starting Tuesday next week, October 26, passengers of long distance trains must use their resident identification number or NIK when purchasing tickets. This policy will apply for adult passengers or children.
For foreign nationals, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) requires them to use their passport number.
"This provision aims to support government programs in an effort to use the NIK in all public service sectors," said KAI's VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus, Tuesday, October 19.
The regulation is in accordance with Presidential Regulation No.83/2021 on the Inclusion and Utilization of NIK and/or Taxpayer Identification Numbers in Public Services.
Joni said that the rule on using ID and passport numbers is also for the purpose of verifying passengers' vaccination status and Covid-19 examination of prospective customers. Moreover, KAI has integrated the PeduliLindung app with its boarding system.
Customers with KAI Access Membership are requested to immediately update their account data, either via customer service at stations or KAI's contact center and WhatsApp Hotline. The data update process can also be done at the station counter or the KAI Access app.
"The policy is expected to provide more convenience, speed, certainty, and security to all train customers," said Joni.
