TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the commemoration of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, or Maulid Nabi Muhammad, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo calls on the public to further care for others, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Take the Prophet Muhammad as a role model who is very patient, has a noble character, and puts others first. The Prophet says, ‘Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden, Allah will relieve him of a burden on the Day of Judgment',” said the President via his Instagram account on Tuesday, October 19.
The commemoration of Maulid Nabi falls on Tuesday, October 19, or 12 Rabi' al-Awwal 1443 H. The Indonesian government, however, shifted the national holiday to today, October 20.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the national holiday was moved in a bid to anticipate the surge in COVID-19 cases. “This is not the first time. We have shifted holidays several times to prevent people from taking holidays,” he said in a statement on Sunday, October 17.
