TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two people suffered severe burns after the fire broke out on Jalan B Karang Anyar, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta this afternoon. The victims were named Susi and Eka.
“The victims were rushed to the Dwiwarna Hospital,” said Deputy Head of the Sawah Besar Police Adjunct Commissioner Mukti Ali on Thursday, October 14.
However, Mukti stopped short of detailing the severity of the burns.
Three explosions were heard prior to the fire, he informed. The police had arrived at the site to conduct an investigation on the crime scene in order to unveil the cause.
“[The cause of the fire] is not yet known. Police officers have arrived at the location to process the crime scene,” he added.
According to witnesses, the fire first emerged from the building of a food stall and spread to the building next door. The firefighters suspected that the blaze started from the gas stove at 11:55 a.m. local time.
The fire and rescue agency mobilized 12 firetrucks and 60 firefighters. The fire was finally extinguished at 1:00 p.m. The loss due to the incident was estimated to reach Rp315 million.
